After York and Bolton Abbey, we made our way eastward towards the coast. The scenery was lovely and we decided not to hurry, since the drive was not that far.
On the map I saw that Castle Howard was right on the A64, directly on our way. I had always been interested in seeing Castle Howard after watching Brideshead Revisited – both 1978 and 2007 movie versions were filmed there. I expected Castle Howard to be a nice place to visit. But what I got was delightful, interesting, beautiful! Melody and I spent a few hours walking around, taking pictures, and joining walking tours, but we could have easily spent an entire day there.
I felt like this was a fine detour off the track of all things Brontë. However, at the end of the main house tour, what do you think I saw!?!?!???? A sign with all of the famous people the 7th Earl, George Howard, had met during his lifetime, and there she was: Charlotte Brontë! Ah… it was all meant to be.

Gorgeous photos, thanks for sharing. The picture of the peacock brings back a funny memory for my trip to Castle Howard. We had just sat down for a cup of tea and slice of cake in the outdoor cafe but before I took a single bite, a peacock sashayed close to my chair. I have never been in such a close proximity with such a beautiful creature and was transfixed. He came within inches of me and then made a straight beeline for my untouched wedge of cake. I thought it would merely peck it but Noo! he not only pecked it, he pecked it good causing it to drop to the ground and within minutes he polished up the entire slice down to its very last crumb( and it was very generously cut piece, I may add) I was still in a mild shock, I have never imagined peacocks having a taste for confectionery and certainly not for a an entire piece of cake! Thankfully my husband was agreeable to sharing his slice with me and so the story had a happy end
That is hilarous, Hina! I’m sure you made that peacock’s day, if not his entire week. And you sure do have a nice husband… if the cake had been chocolate, I’m not sure I would have been so agreeable for sharing!
